ABOUT
The Harbor Tank is a size-inclusive, Tunisian crochet tank top that features a flattering front and back V-neckline, classic knit-like texture, and unique straps. This warm weather garment is made up of beginner stitches, sport weight yarn, and is worked in rows from the bottom-up in 2 separate panels.
The pattern includes easy to follow, color coded instructions for 9 sizes with a video tutorial (available Aug 17) specifically for this pattern that helps get you started and through the trickier parts.
1 PATTERN. 3 OPTIONS.
The hardest part about this pattern is figuring out which strap you want. The pattern offers instructions for 3 different types: feminine ties, athletic chains, or traditional straps!
CONSTRUCTION
The Harbor Tank is worked from the bottom-up in rows. You'll start by crocheting the body. Once that reaches the desired length, you'll add the V-neck detail. You'll then shape underarms and neckline to get that perfect fit on the shoulders. Lastly, you'll create the straps and seam everything together.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
When Sandra (Nomad Stitches) reached out to me in early 2024 curious to know if I'd be interested in collaborating with Plyful, I was running before my boots hit the ground!
I was so excited and had so many ideas. To start, I decided that the design should match the season, so, since I was a guest designer for August, a tank top just felt right.
However, I had a hard time deciding between which craft. Crochet has so many "subcategories": traditional, mosaic, Tunisian, etc. I must have been feeling real frisky because my first design was mosaic crochet (which I've never done before) but that quickly changed to my favorite craft: Tunisian crochet.
Once I pinned down the craft and type of garment I wanted to offer, I then had to decide on style. My goal for this top was to be feminine and timeless with a hint of modern and athleisure.
This is where I had a slight problem. I thought, "What if".
And down the strap rabbit hole I went. I failed many times attempting a crisscross back, (It just wasn't polished enough for me.) but even when I did succeed and made the chain straps, I knew there were endless options with this front and back V-neck body style. And I can't very well only offer 1 option when I knew there could be so many more. That would be limiting the design! So, I added the tie option. (Because hello, it's 2024.) Finally, after adding that second option, I felt that I should also include a traditional strap option because well... why not please everyone?!
And that's how the 3-in-1 Harbor Tank was born.
