ABOUT
The Driftwood Vest is a sleeveless top that features a classic, crew neckline and beautiful knit-like texture. This unisex garment is worked in rows from the bottom-up with flattering underarm shaping, so the straps sit comfortably on the shoulders. Plus, it can be layered during the chilly seasons or worn all by itself during the warmer ones!
The pattern includes easy to follow, color coded instructions for 9 sizes with example photos and a video tutorial specifically for this pattern that helps get you started and through the trickier parts.
1 PATTERN. 2 OPTIONS.
The hardest part about this pattern is figuring out if you want to make a full-length vest with positive ease or a cropped vest with a snatched waist. I was so indecisive that I made both.
CONSTRUCTION
The Driftwood Vest is worked from the bottom-up in rows. You'll start by crocheting the base ribbing and then Tunisian crochet off of the side of the ribbing to create the body. Once the body length is reached, you'll decrease at the underarms to get that perfect fit on the shoulders. You'll then shape the neckline, create the straps, and seam everything together. Lastly, you'll add the ribbed edging to the armholes and neckline.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
The Driftwood Pullover is one of my most worn makes and best-selling patterns, so I felt that it needed a sister design!
Before even sketching, I knew I wanted this vest to look knit and have a classic, tailored feel to it. So, the Tunisian Purl Stitch was a must. I also knew to make it relatable to the pullover, I had to incorporate the beloved Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch.
However, after playing around with those 2 stitches, I felt that the transition between them wasn't polished enough. That's when I added the Tunisian Simple Stitch. After that, the design was born and quickly came to life!
